ABOUT BICHON FRISE

Nickname: Bichon
The Bichon Frise is a very lovable fluffy, fuzzy wuzzy toy dog with a medium length muzzle and floppy ears. Bichons have intelligent, expressive dark eyes and a plumed tail that curves jauntily up & over their backs.

These dogs are easy to live with and are smart and affectionate so they will want to go everywhere! They radiate love and enthusiasm and are known for their ability to uplift whoever they are with.

Bichons need companionship & close human contact and do not thrive when left alone. Unlike some toy breeds, the Bichon Frise are not yappy dogs. They are very loyal to their human family, however, Bichons are NOT recommended for children under 5 as the puppy may suffer broken bones and head injuries if stepped on or dropped.

HEALTH CONCERNS
Skin Conditions & Allergies, Dental Issues, Bladder Infections & Kidney Stones, Patellar luxation, Ear Infections & Eye Diseases.

These types of health problems can be prevented by finding a breeder that is well informed about the problems that affect the breed and how to selectively breed to prevent these genetic problems from being passed on to the next generation of Bichons.

Tooth & Ear infections will not become a problem if you practice proper hygiene. Teeth & gums need to be brushed daily and ears should be cleansed weekly with an acidifying cleanser made specifically for cleaning and drying your dogs ears.

Skin problems & Allergies can be kept under control by dietary means: Nutritional supplements including vitamins high in B, C & E and Omega 3-6-9 oil supplements. Avoid using chemicals inside your home and out in your yard. Use natural cleaning products and garden sprays.

Nails will need to be clipped every couple of months

TRAINING your Bichon Frise will be fun and easy; they are very clever, charming and very willing to please. They can be taught to do all kinds of entertaining tricks. Some say the Bichon is a challenge to house train, but this difficulty can be overcome with prevention, praise and consistent repitition.

GROOMING - the coat of the Bichon is soft, curly and rapid growing. You will need to brush their coat daily to prevent matting and they will need to be clipped every 2-3 months.
